Here's how a show works. The audience votes on the places they want to see on stage — a diplomat's cocktail party, a dark alley, an AI-controlled car. Then, four veteran improvisers weave them all into an entire play with characters, stakes, and a story no one saw coming. The only raw materials: your suggestions and their imagination. No script, no net, no second chances. Each performance exists only that night.
What makes this different?
These aren’t short skits or games — each night is a full, dramatically driven comic play.
Our ensemble blends rapid-fire comic instincts with the emotional depth of live theater.
Expect danger, tenderness, sharp wit, and scenes that stay with you after the lights go down.
Who's it for?
Anyone who loves being surprised. Smart-comedy fans. Date nights, friends' outings, curious theatergoers. If you've ever wished a play would just go somewhere unexpected — this is that.
What is a Precipice improvised play like?
One night, the audience suggested a bathtub, a zoo, and a moon base. The resulting play saw a couple trying to spice up their marriage — first at a public bath, then at a zoo restaurant where guests dined with the animals, and finally on a moon base where dodging asteroids turned out to be the easy part. The hard part was staying out of the way of two feuding brothers about to get everyone killed.
Precipice Improv Theater is the resident performing company of Bethesda Improv Theater.
What will the next play be about? No one knows yet. Not even us. Come see what happens.
